A Revolution in Cooling for Benchtop Rotovaps

Engineered for high-speed solvent evaporation and recovery in small- to medium-sized laboratories, the EcoChyll® X3 is a robust cooling system for chemical, botanical, and other extractions. Using the pioneering EcoChyll® direct cooling technology, the X3 bridges the gap between small-footprint, benchtop rotary evaporators and our larger, higher-capacity EcoChyll evaporators. With a true 12 L capacity and compact form factor, it holds more solvent than a “20 L” rotary evaporator while having a faster evaporation rate and much shorter total run time.

The EcoChyll® X3 is routinely used downstream of botanical extractions via BHO, CO2, or ethanol. With twin metallic condenser coils, the EcoChyll® X3 carries out continuous direct-cooling of incoming vapors in an efficient and environmentally-friendly manner. No glycol or other coolant is necessary, start-up times are far shorter, and total energy usage is less than half. EcoChyll® evaporators also free up operator time due to low-intervention requirements. Because the evaporation flask is stirred rather than rotating, residual product can simply be drained from a valve. The EcoChyll X3 can also be set up for more complete process automation, saving time and money without compromising the quality of your results.

Setting New Standards in Evaporation Efficiency

Rotary evaporators haven’t evolved much over the past 50 years. The basic operation has been the same. We wanted to make something better, so we rethought the rotary evaporator from the ground up. We asked ourselves: How could we more efficiently heat the evaporation flask? (A: Sit the flask directly in a heating mantle.) How could we minimize handling of large glassware? (A: Make the flask stationary so it can have a drain.) How could we decrease run time? (A: We need to reduce the coolant pull-down time while increasing the evaporation rate.) How could we make the cooling process faster and more efficient? (A: Pump refrigerant directly from the compressor through the condenser.)

When you answer all those questions, you get the EcoChyll; a system which can render the legacy rotary evaporators obsolete. You get shorter runs, faster start-up, less manual activity, and far greater energy efficiency than a rotary evaporator. For more information, contact us today.

Features

  • Recovers all residual solvents (below 500ppm).
  • Designed to handle an extremely wide range of solvents, including water and all common solvents used in the cannabis and hemp industries.
  • No need to move glassware: The stationary evaporation flask is filled with a siphon feed valve and emptied with a drain valve for uninterrupted operation.
  • Can be incorporated in-line with botanical extraction or winterization systems and fully automated.
  • Digital interfaces and data monitoring for stirring rod, vacuum pump, chiller, and heating mantle.
  • Patented EcoChyll condensation unit reaches -40°C on the coils in under one minute.
  • Spacious evaporation flask prevents “bumping” of solution into condensation unit.
  • Single user operation with minimal interference required.
  • Capable of evaporating ethanol at low temperatures (38C).
  • Extremely energy efficient.
  • Safety features for automatic shutdown.

Modular Upgrade Program

Ecodyst has a modular upgrade program to help groups that plan to scale larger in the future.

For example, the X5 EcoChyll condensation unit can be paired with the 12 and 22 liter evaporation units.

If you were to purchase a 12L EcoChyll X5 and later wished to double your processing capacity, you could purchase only a 22 liter evaporation unit to pair with the X5 EcoChyll.

This amounts to a significant savings (versus purchasing a new 12L EcoChyll X3 turnkey system) while doubling your processing power.
